PART I: HISTORY
Real Science is fundamentally based on close observation, logical analysis and rigorous skeptical testing of the Hypothetical explanation of the natural world mystery. (The Hypothesis may also be called a ‘Conjecture.’) If it is not about the natural real world, it is useless. If it actually explains the ‘mystery,’ it can be used to modify natural life in a RELIABLE manner. Only then can you trust its legitimacy.
All Physics and Chemistry developed exactly that way starting in the 1600s and especially in the 1700s. All such real Science was reliable until something changed in the 1800s in Methods and Procedures.
Testing methods were extremely exact in medieval Islamic Alchemy, but ultimately led nowhere because they were trying to fabricate the ultimate form of wealth – GOLD – from cheap ingredients. The goal superseded the Curiosity to purely understand Nature.
The Periodic Table of the Elements, the rudimentary basis of the Science of Chemistry, could never be uncovered by trying to turn lead (or any other base metal) into gold because each was a unique Element. Without the Periodic Table of the Elements, there can be no true Science of Chemistry.
The overlap between Chemistry and Physics involves quite a few areas of the Natural World because each is truly Scientific.
In studying Gases under varying forms of Pressure, Temperature and Volumetric factors, precise Science is older than the French Revolution (1789). But realizing that two distinct Viewpoints are involved required a unification of those points of view with precision and reliability. The Molecular Viewpoint had to fit perfectly with the general gas viewpoint. Amadeo Avogadro’s (1776-1856) Law (1812) makes the two viewpoints perfectly consistent by using the Avogadro Constant for conversion.
In Physics, the study of the elementary nature of matter ultimately also required the same type of perfect alignment of the two Viewpoints. As far back as Socrates, the Particle Theory was speculated about. In studying Pure Nature and Light especially, both the Particle Theory and the Wave Theory each developed independently. The study of light began seriously with Isaac Newton (1643-1727). The study of the mysterious relationship between Electricity and Magnetism really took off in the 19th Century creating the full-fledged Industrial Revolution in the harnessing of the powers of nature to vastly improve human life. Max Planck (1858-1947) in 1900 invented Planck’s Constant which converts the precise Science of Particle Theory and the precise Science of Wave Theory to a consistent reliable Science of Physics.
Enough of the background! Now for the cause of the FUBAR world of today.
The desire to have reliable Science so that morons like Joe Biden would never be able to say that he is ‘following the science’ (because Credentialed Phonies claim unproven and unprovable conclusions) could never occur if Real Science had not gotten politically perverted in the 19th Century. But it did get so perverted.
The heart of the perversion involves two important but different factors. The Reliable Science factor is known as ‘CAUSALITY.’ If A leads to B scientifically, it does so perfectly every time.
The other factor is called the ‘CORRELATIVE’ factor. If you encounter two factors frequently, but not uniformly, you are not dealing with Causality – but rather a Correlative relationship.
Correlative factors are the product of Close Observation but without the necessary uniformity. Such factors are often used to BEGIN an open-minded inquiry. Sometimes such an Inquiry can lead to the Scientific Methodology but it takes a whole lot more work to get there.
The first claims of Science that became politically accepted as Science falsely was in a massively compiled compendium of Economic Data from England put together by Karl Marx and his junior partner Fredrick Engels.
It falsely purports to ‘prove’ that control of the ‘Means of Production of all Economic Activity’ is, with SCIENTIFIC CERTAINTY, the inevitable end-product of human social evolution. They alleged the ‘Social Ownership of Property’ of formerly private property ownership (called Capitalism) is a Natural Scientific Law of all human life.
It is a beguiling mass of incomprehensible correlative data extracted from Official English History as recorded in the British Museum where this lunatic Karl Marx spent thousands of hours.
Two ironies are worthy of mention. First, when Lenin and Company, by violent coup d’etat, seized the reigns of absolute government power, they had no idea how to create their perfect world. Marx and Engels neglected to mention that – therefore, there was no model to imitate. Everything they tried failed. Lenin’s New Economic Plan sucked in foreign investment money; however, once that was stolen nothing worked correctly.
Secondly, in the third generation of Soviet Communism, the inevitable failures grew massively. In the 1970s, though owning the richest farmland in Europe in the Ukraine, the USSR had to purchase huge amounts of ‘inferior’ Capitalist grain to keep the population from starving. By the 1980s, common people never tired of the Joke: “How can they call it Scientific Socialism when they never even tested it on rats?”
By the 1980s, nobody in his right mind in the USSR still believed in Marxist Scientific Socialism. The Reagan military build-up bankrupted the USSR in failing to keep up with technological innovation.
The heart of Karl Marx’ insanity is the claim that two or more factors that sometimes, even often, when grouped together constitutes PROOF of how economics operates.
Of course that is non-sensical; however, this Pseudo-Scientific overlap of two or more Correlative factors almost everywhere, outside of Physics, Chemistry and Molecular Biology, passes for (fake) Science.
Today’s practice of Medicine is overwhelming based on PROTOCOLS formulated out of probabilities that are sometimes True and sometimes False and, sadly, sometimes deleterious. It is most observable in the widespread use of Prescription Medication. To be clear, there is no such thing as a ‘Side Effect.’ It is an Effect that sometimes occurs in some patients but not in others. Real Science would never operate that way.
The first Principle of Medicine in the Ancient World was that of Hippocrates which declared: “First Do No Harm!” Contemporary MEDICAL PROTOCOLS cause lots of harm (sometimes even fatalities) to lots of patients. But, following MEDICAL PROTOCOLS makes the physician liability-free.
I think it stinks! But I have no power.
PART II: KARL RAYMOND POPPER
At the bottom of the About the Book page on this website, you will find the 27 books that truly educated me. Two of those books were written by a great 20th Century Philosopher, Karl Raymond Popper. He started in Vienna, fled Europe to the UK during the Hitler era and ended his career as a Philosophy Professor in Christ Church, NZ.
The two books on that list (“The Open Society and Its Enemies – Plato, Hegel and Marx” and “The Poverty of Historicism”) are critically important for a true education. He wrote a number of other great books about Methods and Procedures – especially “Conjectures and Refutations.”
Ever since the perversion of Marxism entered the culture roughly one and a half centuries ago, Marxist Socialism took over the arrogant Academic Fatuity World monopolizing sympathy for the ‘poor’ as nothing more than a vehicle for Narcissistic Megalomaniacs with the verbal skills of Sophistry to dominate others.
Marxism (and all forms of State Socialism) is a dead-end for Human Progress. It freezes the real possibility of improvement and creates two distinct Classes. The Rulers (sometimes called the Nomenclature) live well and a preponderance of Common People spend their lives ‘waiting on lines’ for food, medical treatment, etc.
Acknowledging the ultimate failure of all forms of Socialism, Popper advocated a truly scientific approach ‘to make a better life’ for the preponderance of Mankind.
Since Scientific Engineering turns pure Science into practical improvements, he advocated ‘Piecemeal Engineering.’ If you wish to uplift the life of Mankind, first you must prove the viability of your improvement in several small-scale experiments. Only then can you build on what actually works and discard that which does not. All Scientific Engineering works that way.
[The first Socialist Experiment was the original Pilgrim colony in Massachusetts. Within two decades, it failed miserably because, when some lazy or corrupt people (as if they were ‘entitled’) can ride on the back of those with Integrity, you eventually run out of those with Integrity. The Pilgrims broke up the farm land into individual privately owned farms. If you worked, you ate. If you did not work, you begged or starved.]
Maybe in another one and a half to two centuries, Mankind may actually and reliably make a better life for everyone. But that can never happen until the perversion of Pseudo-Science is banned from the culture.
